Brunswick Balke Collender (B265) Model 26 1/2 c. 1915 -
Vintage Brunswick cues are sought-after by collectors, and especially those in very fine original condition. Any example is rare, but this cue is particularly desirable as it is all-original in every aspect without looking beat up; it has both the original bumper and what appears to be the original tip, something rarely encountered in a 90 year old cue.
As described in a 1915 BBC catalog, the one-piece No. 26 1/2 is a “Berger-Style fancy inlaid imported wood in different colors, pearl name plate and butt plate”. This model was offered with the options of either a fibre tip, or with an ivory tip (ferrule) for just 25 cents additional. “Berger-style” refers to the four full-spliced points; “Vignaux-style” was the term used for cues with butterfly splices. Both were named after famous players of the era.

The one-piece maple front has a beautiful patina, and four rosewood prongs with four veneers (violet, green, rose, maple). Although slightly faded, the veneers still show nice colors. The real mother-of-pearl wedge nameplate has four veneers of maple/rose/green/violet. Opposite the nameplate is the original red and gold Brunswick Balke Collender decal, which is in near-perfect condition. Number “19” is stamped into the rosewood in between the nameplate and the decal. The original brown leather bumper is still tacked into the end of the butt.
The original 12.75mm, 7/8 inch ivory ferrule is intact, although the old leather tip is probably too fragile for play. The cue is 57 inches long.
The original French polished finish still is still in excellent condition. The cue has survived with only a few fine scratches in the butt during its long life; clearly it has been well cared-for. The overall condition is 95%.
