AE Cues (AE206) - 1996 6 pts. Ebony, curly Purpleheart
This cue shows the fine handiwork of cue makers Jeff Fugal and Bruce Kuhn, whose “AE” logo stands for “Artistic Engineering”. AE has been making cues for over 12 years in the Denver area. They are a custom shop making under 100 cues per year. Their workmanship is excellent and the cues have a nice hit. I would rank them among the top 15 custom cue makers working in the U.S. today. AE was one of 11 cue makers invited to exhibit at the October Int'l Cue Collectors Show in Park City (the other cue makers were Ginacue, Josswest, David Kikel, McWorter, Paul Mottey, Richard Chudy, Samsara, Bill Schick, South West, and Thomas Wayne). Although AE makes a few `player' cues (mostly sold locally), they are particularly known among collectors for their ivory and silver inlaid cues, which start at $3800.
This striking cue features six points ebony in a vivid curly purpleheart forearm; each of the alternating 3 long and 3 short ebony points is inlayed with a delicately veneered purpleheart diamond. The ebony butt sleeve has 6 curly purpleheart windows framed in holly with a thin black veneer inside. Each window is inset with a long, thin, veneered diamond inlay of ebony. The ivory-colored butt cap is engraved with the “AE” logo, and finished with a black rubber bumper attached with a hex screw. The piloted stainless steel joint has a black linen phenolic collar decorated with Bushka-style ringwork of maple, ebony, and nickel silver. Black with white speck Irish linen wrap.
(2) full 13mm unchalked shafts, includes a full set of custom joint protectors.
Length: 58 inches. Weight: 19.7 oz.
The original retail price of this cue ten years ago was $1610. It is in new 100% condition.
