Joel Hercek (JH05) 2005 - 4 full-spliced Ebony pts., Ivory inlays & joint $3950
Joel Hercek is the inheritor of the Burton Spain shop and one of the few cue makers who builds full-splice cues. His cues are now in such demand that the average wait for a Hercek cue is 5 years. Recently he has been doing more work in ivory, This cue has 36 ivory inlays plus ivory ringwork. Hercek still hand-builds cues the old-fashioned way. The result is superb workmanship, and cues that play as good as they look.
An unusual feature of this cue is Hercek's engraved signature on the butt cap; Joel rarely signs his cues.
Four full-spliced points of ebony into a bird's-eye maple forearm, with four veneers (black/red/black/white). Each point has an ivory spear in the base and an ebony veneered ivory spear at the tip. The ebony butt sleeve has ivory ringwork with slotted veneers at the top and bottom (B & C), as well as in the black linen phenolic joint and shaft collars (D & E). Four pairs of ivory spears alternate with lines of ivory; 12 ivory dots form a ring in the center. The piloted ivory joint has a 5/16-14 stainless steel pin and comes with a joint protector. Wrap is black with red speck Irish linen. The cue is finished with a white delrin butt cap engraved with “HERCEK” (very rare, Joel has signed fewer than a dozen cues) and black rubber push-in bumper. Weight: 18.6 oz. Length: 58 inches.
(2) 29-inch 13mm shafts with ivory ferrules and medium Moori tips with a special red fibre backing.
This cue was delivered January 2005. It is a “like new” cue in 98% condition; one shaft is unchalked, the other shaft has had a few hours of play.
