Laube (EL-MW) Early 60s Merry Widow, mint orig. finish & decals $1,100
Eddie Laube, Jr. built cues in Chicago from the 1960's until 1973. This cue is one of his standard designs built before 1966, when he received the patent for his joint; note the label reads “PAT.  PEND.” His unique trademarked brass-to-brass piloted joint has the pin in the shaft. What is exceptional about this 40+ years old cue is the condition of the butt sleeve: it is absolutely mint. I have never seen one to rival it.
Mahogany forearm; the matching butt sleeve has an ivory-colored butt cap trimmed with a red fiber band, and a black rubber bumper attached with a slotted screw.  At the bottom of the butt are two original decals, both in pristine condition, imprinted on gold paper: The larger one reads: “CUSTOM-MADE CUE BY EDDIE LAUBE, JR. 4165 N. ELSTON AVE. CHICAGO, ILL.  PAT. PEND. 19 1/2 “  (Cues made after 1966 have a similar label with the patent number, sometimes protected under a clear plastic ring.) The smaller label above it is from his exclusive Michigan distributor, Nick J. Markus. Original brown nylon wrap.
One rock maple 13 mm shaft made by Paul Rubino with an ivory-colored plastic shaft collar decorated with a wide brass ring, and brass pin. Paul did a beautiful job matching the Laube pin and shaft taper.
Weight: 20 oz. Length: 57 inches.
