Abear (A998) - 1998 8 pt. ebony, Mammoth Ivory, Walrus bone
Steve Hebert made cues for 17 years in Arlington, Texas. He made his last cue in 2001, and is now retired from cue making. The name “Abear Cues” comes from the correct pronunciation of his French last name (“ay-bear”). Most of Steve's cues were either conversions or Merry Widow cues (no points). He liked to use natural materials whenever possible, and favored rare and unusual bone, ivories, and horns to embellish his cues. This cue is a rare 8-point example of an Abear, and is also signed; most of Steve's cues are not.
Bird's-eye maple forearm is a Prather blank with 8 ebony points, three veneers of black and double-red; the short points overlap the long points. The butt sleeve is rare Wooly Mammoth ivory that it is between 10,000 and 20,000 years old. The flat-faced wood-to-wood joint has a Mammoth ivory collar and a brass 3/8-10 pin. Ringwork at ABCDE of walrus bone bordered with thin veneer rings of black and red. The bone is pre-1972 and all legal, and came from the lower jawbone of one animal. The ring above the black water buffalo horn butt cap is hand-signed “Abear 9-98”; there is a scratch in the butt cap finish. The black with red speck linen wrap is a perfect match to the veneers.
(2) shafts: 12.75-12.8mm with light to moderate play (one is like new) straight and well-cared-for (see photos).  The ferrules are also Mammoth ivory, with Sniper layered tips.  Weight: 20.2 oz.
