Cues like this with inlays and custom ringwork by Ernie Martinez have been in short supply for a number of years. Ernie has been an off-and-on cuemaker for the past six years or so. In 2006 he started making cues again, sharing another Denver cuemaker's shop, where he reportedly has turned out some nice basic cues.

This talented cuemaker created a number of stunning cues in the 1990's, when he exhibited at major cue shows in 1993, 1995, and 1998. All of his work is done by hand on a manual pantograph. Ernie Martinez cues are prized by collectors and players alike. They are regarded as very playable, with a “soft” hit.

Description:

The richly colored Purpleheart (Amaranth) forearm has 6 long, even points of fancy Bird's-eye. The maple is highlighted by a light touch of stain, just enough to bring out the beautiful figuring. The Purpleheart butt sleeve is embellished with six slender ivory diamond inlays. Both the points and inlays are razor-sharp, showing the meticulous craftsmanship for which this placeColorado cuemaker is known.

The flat-faced wood-to-wood joint has a custom stainless steel pin and a black linen phenolic joint collar. The delicate 12-stitch ivory ringwork (A,B,C,D and E) set in black linen phenolic is bordered by white linen rings. The wrap is black with white speck Irish linen.

A unique black linen phenolic butt cap has eight bevels cut in the bottom, with a matching octagonal bumper. The cue is marked by the `EM' logo engraved in white in the butt cap.

Two original shafts with Melamine ferrules and Moori tips:

Shaft #1: 12.3mm, 3.25 oz. (96g), played but clean; rolls straight.

Shaft #2: 12.5mm, 3.5 oz. (106g), played, with chalk staining, slight roll.

The finish on the cue is in 98% condition. There are some tiny finish chips on the bevels of the butt cap. I would rate the overall condition at 90%.
