pfd Studios (Drexler) 2004 - 5 pt. Tulipwood, Ebony, Ivory inlays (PFD-6TE)
In 1989, Paul Drexler combined his love of woodworking and pool, starting to make cues while keeping his corporate day job. Two years later, after meeting and talking with many top cuemakers, he was invited to visit Bert Schrager's shop and get some hands-on knowledge from a cue craftsman with nearly 30 years of experience. The trip changed his life, resulting in Paul's decision to become a full-time cuemaker.
Paul's wife Ellen began her involvement in pfd Studios on a part-time basis, doing the inlay work on a manual pantograph while holding down a job as Regional Manager for Fireman's Fund Insurance. From 1995 until 2005 Ellen devoted full-time involvement to the shop. When the Drexlers upgraded to CNC in 1998, Ellen was responsible for translating Paul's designs into machine language that her 4 Axis CNC gantry milling machine used to complete the inlay work on the cue. (In 2005 Ellen returned to the insurance world, and now makes only an occasional “command performance” for special cues.)
Pfd Studios specializes in creating unique and artistic cues for collectors. Paul showcases some of these one-of-a-kind cues are at the invitational International Cue Collectors Show held every fall. Many of these intricate cues feature scrimshawed ivory inlays and/or handles.
