(BR4-01) Bob Runde (BR4-01) - 2001 4 pt. Ebony, Bird's-Eye, 56 inlays of Ivory, Cocobolo & Ebony, 1 of 1, all-original and unchalked
Bob Runde may be best known as the co-founder of Schon Custom Cues, but the 12 years at Schon represent only a fraction of his 30-year cuemaking career. He began making cues in the early 1970's, while he was working full-time as an engineer for a company that made musical instruments. After a 2-1/2 year stint with another Wisconsin cue manufacturer in the mid-70s, Bob went back to making cues on his own for over three years. In 1981 he partnered with Terry Romine to start Schon. Bob was involved with the creation of every cue made there until he retired in late 1992.
Soon after he decided to go back to making cues on a part-time basis, so as not to interfere with his fishing and golf pursuits. From 1994 until 2004 Bob made fewer than 200 one-of-kind and limited edition designs. He is again retired from cuemaking. Because of the small number of cues he made and the quality of the workmanship, Runde cues are highly valued in the collector market.
The forearm of this 2001 cue is highly figured bird's-eye maple with 4 ebony inlaid points tipped with ivory and ebony spearheads. Each point is inlaid with a floating point of cocobolo inset with an ebony oval and an ivory diamond. The ivory spanners are re-milled into ebony in-between the points. The ebony butt sleeve features 4 ebony ovals framed in cocobolo and inlaid with a 4-piece exploding diamond in ivory. The cocobolo, ivory, and silver ring work appears above and below the black and white linen wrap and at the base of the butt sleeve (A, B and C). The joint and shaft collars (D&E) are black linen phenolic with a silver ring. Runde's trademark piloted stainless steel joint with 5/16-14 pin is known for its playability. The ivory-colored butt cap is engraved `RUNDE 01' and is protected by a black rubber bumper attached with a hex screw.
One perfectly straight 13mm shaft, 4.25 oz., with ivory ferrule and LePro tip, unchalked.
Butt weight is 14.25 oz., for a total weight of 19.5 oz. Length is 58 inches.
This cue is in 100% new, unplayed condition.
If you've been looking for a pristine example of a one-of-kind Runde, this is your cue.
