PAUL HUEBLER (HC97-CIC6) - Custom Shop “Ivory Cards” 1 of 2, 4 points Ebony with Ivory inlaid points, inlays, joint, butt cap & joint protectors

Paul Huebler started making cues in his Linn, Missouri workshop in 1973. In addition to his fine standard edition and series cues, Huebler offered one-of-a-kind cues. These cues were engraved on the bottom of the butt cap “CUSTOM SHOP” along with the month and year. Paul Huebler explained to me that “a custom cue was anything the customer wanted: ivory or stainless steel joint, leather or linen wrap - whatever the customer wanted. All custom cues came with two shafts.” Most custom shafts had ivory ferrules, unless the client preferred linen fibre or buckhorn.

Most of the `Custom Ivory Cards' cues featured the symbols of all four of the card suits in the butt sleeve. This cue was unusual, and is one of a pair made for the same collector featuring only diamond inlays. According to Mr. Huebler, “We made these custom for him. Most `Ivory Cards' had all four suits, not just the diamonds.” They are the only ones like this he remembers making.

Mr. Huebler, who is 80 years old, has not been able to make cues for a number of years, and plans to completely retire in the near future.

The bird's-eye maple forearm has four ebony points inlaid with floating ivory points. The ebony butt sleeve features single ebony diamonds set in four ivory ovals between opposing ivory triangles. Ivory dash rings (8-piece) are set in black linen phenolic at A, B, and C, with matching 6-piece ivory dash rings decorating the black linen phenolic joint and shaft collars (D and E). Flat-faced wood-to-wood joint is collared in ivory (custom option) with a 5/16-18 stainless steel pin. The ivory butt cap (custom upgrade) is engraved, “CUSTOM SHOP SEPTEMBER 1997” on the bottom edge under the brown Brunswick bumper. The cue is finished with a smooth black leather wrap, another custom option.

Weight: 19-5/8 oz. Butt 15-3/4 oz. (450g).

Two matched shafts, each 3-7/8 oz. (110g):

Shaft #1: 13mm, ivory ferrule, backed Le Pro tip, unchalked;

Shaft #2: 13mm, linen fibre ferrule, Le Pro tip, chalked, immaculate.

A 3-piece set of solid custom ivory joint protectors is included.

Excellent “like new” 98% condition, one owner cue.
