Verl Horn (VH8-80) - Early 1990's - 8 pts. Ivory, Bird's-eye, Ebony, 18 ivory inlays

Verl Horn finished his first cue in 1961, and continued to make cues in Mooreland, Oklahoma into the 1990's. He passed away at the age of 78 after a long bout with cancer. Back in the 70's, Verl asked Dan Prather to cut and construct cue materials for him. Verl and Dan partnered for a time, as Dan became aware that there was a market opportunity for high-quality cue components. The Prathers learned a lot about cue making from Verl, according Jennifer Prather, who worked in the shop during the early days.

Dan formed Prather Parts and Prather Cues with his sons Jeff and Daniel, Jr. and daughter Jennifer in the early 80's. Even after Verl went back to working in his one-man shop, Prather continued to supply some blanks to him. The ivory joints and ferrules for the Horn cues were made in Verl's shop, along with the blanks for most of his ivory pronged cues, using his inventory of top quality, pre-ban elephant ivory.

Burgundy red stained bird's-eye maple, 8 ivory points with ebony veneers, (the long points overlap the smaller points). Ebony butt with two exploding ivory diamonds alternating with two razor blade windows, each surrounded by four ivory dots. Joint and shaft collars are black linen phenolic with 8-piece ivory dashes, long and thin, at ABCDE. Gold “horn” logo on the bottom of the butt sleeve, below one of the windows. Ivory flat-faced joint and butt cap. Black rubber bumper attached with a nylon hex screw. Black with white speck linen wrap. Level 4 cue, with 18 ivory inlays.

Two matched 13mm shafts with ivory ferrules; one unchalked, one with very light play.
