Paul Huebler (HC97-IC11) - Custom `Ivory Chess' 1997 4 points Brazilian rosewood, ivory, maple, Tulipwood inlays; Ivory joint, butt cap, joint protectors
This is the most elaborate chess-themed cue produced by the Huebler Custom Shop, with 88 inlays. According to the Blue Book of Pool Cues, it is considered a Level 7 cue. This cue was part of a display of Huebler custom cues at the October 19-20 International Cue Collectors Show in Houston. Paul Huebler was recognized for his work by the “2007 Lifetime Achievement Award” from the Academy of American Cue Art at the show.
Highly figured curly bird's-eye maple forearm with four Brazilian rosewood points and two veneers (tulipwood and maple). Brazilian rosewood butt sleeve with four chess pieces inlaid in ivory and tulipwood. Bands of rosewood and maple blocks form a checkerboard design above and below. Tulipwood veneers form four windows within each band. Flat-faced wood-wood joint collared in ivory with 5/16-18 stainless steel pin. Triple rings of small rosewood and maple blocks bordered in tulipwood rings create checkerboard ringwork decorating the black linen phenolic joint and shaft collars. Ivory butt cap (custom upgrade) engraved “CUSTOM SHOP JULY 1997” on bottom edge under the brown Brunswick bumper. Original label on butt cap: “HUEBLER IVORY CHESS
