Huebler `Ivory Star' 1998 (HC98-15) -  4 points ivory, Thuya, Abalone, Ebony, Silver & Gold, 728 inlays
This may be the most beautiful design ever created by Paul Huebler. It was completed in 1998, the last year that Mr. Huebler actively made cues. This cue was displayed as a part of the Gem Collection shown at the 2007 International Cue Collectors Show in Houston (see “Deep in the Art of Texas” in the December, 2007 issue of Billiards Digest).
Thuya wood forearm featuring four floating ivory points edged in ebony. Each point has a diamond-shaped abalone inlay. At the base of the points is a double row of ivory star-shaped inlays alternating with ivory ovals inset with more abalone diamonds. The ivory stars and ovals are both delicately veneered in ebony, as are the Sterling silver crosses overlaying the stars. A dot of pure gold highlights the center of each star. The pattern repeats in three rows in the Thuya butt sleeve. The shafts each have four ivory points as well, embellished with ebony, abalone, and silver. The solid ivory joint has a 5/16-18 stainless steel pin. A smooth black leather wrap is bordered with thin black linen phenolic rings. The ivory butt cap is engraved on the bottom: CUSTOM SHOP MAY 1998, and protected with a black rubber bumper.
This is a Level 8 cue with 724 inlays. A set of custom Thuya joint protectors also has ivory, ebony, abalone, and silver inlays to compliment the shaft designs.
