Joss - JS38 The prettiest Dan Janes cue from the early 1970’s I’ve ever seen - and the most intricate. Bill Stroud estimated it was built in 1973. Dan agreed, and explained what a tricky cue it was to build in those days, before the advent of CNC inlays. Each little dot and veneer as cut and fitted by hand.
Four short splice points of highly figured bird’s-eye maple are set into a bird’s-eye forearm, separated by five veneers: black, double blue, red and blue. In between each point is an ebony barbell. Inside each point is a “flower” inlay of black, red, and mother-of-pearl. The bird’s-eye butt sleeve has six bird’s-eye windows inlaid with an ebony window and notched diamonds and dots of mother-of-pearl. The windows are veneered with black and red, and bordered with ebony bands and ebony and red rosary bead rings. Stainless steel joint with maple and black stitch rings at the joint and shaft collars. There are a total of 72 inlays in the cue, not including the ringwork. Three shafts with ivory ferrules: (2) 13 mm, (1) 13.25 mm. 57.5 in. (one shaft is 30 in. rather than 29 in, making an overall length of 58.5 in.) 19.65 oz. with the 29 in. shafts. Excellent condition, including the original white and green linen wrap. PRICE: $4,800.
